“Anyone else hear that loud hum or rumble around 9:30 last night? It was like a low helicopter or a generator running nonstop,” one resident posted online.

The thread quickly caught fire, with dozens of replies pouring in from neighborhoods near Hogan Lane, Prince Street, and beyond. Many reported hearing the sound for several minutes, with a few saying it even made their windows vibrate.
